Space Research Strengthens, BRIN Says Indonesia Can Participate in Moon Mission
The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has stated that Indonesia has the opportunity to participate in various international collaborations related to space exploration, including research missions to the Moon. Such involvement is considered important for strengthening national research capacity whilst enhancing Indonesia’s contribution to the development of global scientific knowledge.
Researchers at BRIN explained that Indonesia’s participation in space missions does not necessarily involve sending astronauts or independently developing spacecraft. Rather, contributions can be made through scientific research, development of observation instruments, analysis of space data, and development of supporting technologies for planetary exploration.
According to BRIN, international collaboration is key to developing modern space research. Many current Moon exploration projects involve various countries working together in technology development, lunar geological research, and scientific data collection from Earth’s natural satellite.
Through various global cooperation schemes, Indonesian researchers have the opportunity to participate in research projects related to Moon exploration. This form of collaboration can include the development of scientific instruments for space missions, astrophysical research, and the analysis of samples and data generated from international exploration missions.
BRIN is also developing various funding programmes and research collaborations that enable Indonesian researchers to work with international partners. This scheme uses a co-funding approach, where research funding is provided jointly by research institutions from Indonesia and partner countries. This approach is expected to expand the network of scientific collaboration and accelerate the transfer of knowledge and technology.
Furthermore, strengthening space research infrastructure domestically is also an important part of the strategy for developing scientific knowledge in this field. BRIN believes that increased research capacity, utilisation of international data, and development of research facilities will open more opportunities for Indonesia to participate in global-scale space exploration projects.
Researchers hope that Indonesia’s involvement in international collaborations in the space sector can encourage new innovations and strengthen Indonesia’s position within the global research ecosystem. With the support of cross-border cooperation, Indonesia is considered to have the potential to contribute to various future scientific missions, including research related to Moon exploration.
