JAKARTA - Soybean prices in traditional markets across the DKI Jakarta area have risen to as much as Rp 20,000 per kilogram.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Office (KPKP), Hasudungan A Sidabalok, explained that the high soybean prices are influenced by macroeconomic conditions and the global supply chain.

“The price increase is due to global dynamics related to turmoil in the largest soybean exporting country, the United States, and the declining rupiah exchange rate,” Hasudungan stated in his official remarks on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“And the price at the traditional market trader level is Rp 15,000 to Rp 20,000 per kg, up from the previous range of Rp 13,000 to Rp 18,000 per kg,” he added.

He revealed that this price increase did not occur suddenly.

“The soybean price rise began to emerge during Ramadan in February 2026 and has continued to fluctuate until now,” Hasudungan explained.

He noted that the vulnerability of soybean prices in Jakarta is triggered by the high dependence on imported supplies, especially from the United States.

“The soybean commodity in DKI Jakarta is almost entirely an imported product, with a small portion coming from local producer regions such as East Java, Central Java, and West Java,” he said.

In response to this price fluctuation, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is encouraging the public not to rely on a single type of commodity.

As a long-term measure, the public is also urged to produce food independently through urban farming to enhance family food security.
