Soybean Prices Reach Rp 10,600 per Kilogram, Tofu Producers in Bandung Raise Prices

Tofu producers in the Cibuntu tofu centre, Bandung City, have raised tofu prices effective Tuesday (31/3/2026) following the soybean price surge to Rp 10,600 per kilogram. They are also complaining about the increases in several staple supporting materials such as turmeric and plastic packaging for tofu.

West Java Tofu and Tempeh Producers Association Chairman Muhammad Jamaludin stated that Cibuntu tofu producers have begun raising the tofu price per board from Rp 60,000 to Rp 62,000. He said the tofu price increase is due to rising production materials starting from soybeans and plastic.

“Now tofu prices are starting to rise from today. So from Rp 60,000 per board, now Rp 62,000 per board. Up Rp 2,000, because materials are rising, soybeans are up, plastic has the highest increase,” he said when met at the Cibuntu tofu centre on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

He explained that one board of tofu can contain 80 to 120 pieces of tofu. Jamaludin said the price of raw material for tofu, namely Bola brand soybeans, has risen to Rp 10,600 to Rp 10,700 per kilogram. Meanwhile, Canadian brand soybeans are at Rp 10,300 per kilogram.

“The increase is high from before fasting, normally around Rp 8,000. Now over Rp 10,000,” he said.

Jamaludin suspects the soybean price rise affecting tofu prices is due to the impact of the Middle East Iran-America war. In addition, the price of plastic packaging for tofu has also increased.

“It affects, it affects a lot because things like plastic, the plastic granules are from abroad. Soybeans are also imported. Soybeans, mostly imported from America, and Canada too,” he said.

Although soybean prices have risen, he said stocks are still available. With the current situation, Jamaludin predicts that soybean prices could rise again amid discussions of fuel oil (BBM) price increases.

“If BBM prices rise, it could reach Rp 65,000 per board,” he said.

Meanwhile, soybean prices once reached a peak of Rp 14,000 three years ago. In that situation, he said producers resorted to strategies by raising prices and shrinking the size of tofu to avoid significant losses.

“Yes, many producers suffer losses, reduced profits. Most suffer losses, so we counter it by having to raise prices or reduce the size,” he said.

He mentioned that soybean price increases are not usually too large. Some residents are also wondering about the tofu price rise.

“Alhamdulillah, purchasing power is still high after this Eid,” he said.

He added that they could go on strike if soybean and tofu prices are not controlled. Because tofu producers will suffer significant losses.
