Soybean Prices Hit Rp12,500 per Kilogram, Leaving Tempeh Producers in Distress
Workers complete the tempeh-making process at the Kampung Tempe production house in Sunter Jaya, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta. According to traders, the price of soybeans, which serves as the essential raw material for tempeh production, is experiencing an upward trend due to the weakening exchange rate of the Rupiah against the US Dollar. Previously, soybean prices ranged from approximately Rp9,000 to Rp9,500 per kilogram, but they have now risen to between Rp12,000 and Rp12,500 per kilogram. This increase is having a significant impact on the production costs incurred by tempeh producers.
