Sovereign Rupiah Expedition Returns to South Kalimantan
The 2026 Sovereign Rupiah Expedition (ERB) team has returned to visit remote and outer islands in South Kalimantan Province. The Sovereign Rupiah Expedition runs from 9 to 15 June 2026, utilising the KRI HIU 634, which will circulate fit-for-circulation currency amounting to Rp 15 billion. On Tuesday (9/6), South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin, alongside the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), dispatched the 2026 Sovereign Rupiah Expedition team at the Trisakti Bandarmasih Port in Banjarmasin. This expedition will visit five islands classified as 3T (Underdeveloped, Frontier, and Outermost) in South Kalimantan, namely Kerasian, Kerayaan, Marabatuan, Matasiri, and East Laut Island. Governor Muhidin expressed his appreciation to Bank Indonesia and the Indonesian Navy for their continued synergy in ensuring that communities in island and remote areas can access fit-for-circulation rupiah currency. ‘This expedition proves that the state is present in all regions of the Republic of Indonesia, without exception for remote areas. This expedition is a symbol of collaboration and unity,’ said Muhidin. The three key missions of this expedition are mobile cash services to ensure fit rupiah reaches the public, educating communities on digital transactions through the expansion of QRIS usage, and providing free healthcare services to residents on the islands visited. The Sovereign Rupiah Expedition is carried out by the Bank Indonesia Representative Office of South Kalimantan Province in cooperation with the Indonesian Navy. The expedition team’s departure runs from 9 to 15 June 2026, using the KRI HIU 634, circulating fit currency reaching Rp 15 billion. Bank Indonesia’s Head of Currency Management Department, M Anwar Basori, noted that South Kalimantan’s economic growth is above the national average. ‘Essentially, we ensure rupiah must be present in all corners and of good quality so that there is no such thing as counterfeit money,’ stressed Anwar Basori.
