Southern Cross Route Congested on H+2 of Eid, West Java Police Chief Reveals the Cause
West Java Police Chief (Kapolda Jabar) Irjen Rudi Setiawan monitored vehicle traffic at several points. He stated that the congestion on arterial routes was dominated by local holidaymakers returning home. “For the arterial routes, this can’t be avoided, as people are moving between regencies and cities to visit their relatives, brothers, sisters, and so on everywhere. The movement is quite dense,” Rudi told reporters at Simpang Gadog, Puncak, West Java, on Monday (23/3/2026). The focal point of congestion was the southern cross route. Rudi explained that the road’s winding paths, descents, and ascents posed obstacles, along with numerous market spots in the area. “The southern arterial route dominates. Why? Look at the road structure—it’s twisting, with descents, ascents, and so forth. There are many markets and places that allow for all sorts of stops, thus causing this congestion,” he said. Rudi has prepared several measures to ease the density. One of them is deploying personnel at prepared posts. “But we already have several posts there. In Nagreg, we have a post coordinating with Limbangan and Gentong. These three are in a line for the southern route,” he added. “Alhamdulillah, it’s dense but smooth. We’re applying some engineering. The one-way engineering earlier was assessed based on the queue capacity of vehicles,” he further stated. His side also received support from the provincial government (pemprov). Thus, at several congestion points, public transport was compensated to not operate. “At some trouble spots, there are angkot, becak, andong, and so on, bentor—they get compensation,” he said.
