The Cooperative and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Service of Southeast Sulawesi Province held a low-cost food bazaar for the public over two days, Wednesday and Thursday, 24–25 June 2026. The event was part of the commemoration of National Entrepreneurship and UMKM Day 2026.

The bazaar, held at the Communication and Informatics Service (Kominfo) office complex in Southeast Sulawesi, offered various staple goods at affordable prices. One of the most sought-after commodities was five-kilogramme packs of rice, sold for Rp55,000. In addition to rice, the public could purchase other daily necessities such as eggs, granulated sugar, wheat flour, and various household products.

Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Cooperative and UMKM Service, LM Shalihin, stated that the low-cost food bazaar represents the regional government’s commitment to helping the community meet their food needs while also creating opportunities for UMKM participation. “In the context of National Entrepreneurship and UMKM Day, we are holding this low-cost market bazaar involving UMKM actors. We are focusing on the food sector because this is a necessity that the public really needs at the moment,” Shalihin said on Wednesday (24/6/2026).

He explained that the activity is part of a broader movement being implemented across various regions in Indonesia. The government is striving to present affordable markets that not only provide staple goods at lower prices but also offer opportunities for local businesses to participate. Shalihin noted that the bazaar’s implementation involved not only the Cooperative and UMKM Service but also coordination with the Food Security Agency, the Regional Economic Bureau, Bulog, and other partners to ensure the availability of goods for the community.

Perum Bulog supported the event by supplying rice, while other partners such as Indogrosir also participated by providing staple goods and household products. The bazaar also involved UMKM actors as part of efforts to boost local economic turnover. The presence of UMKM is expected to broaden market access for local products while increasing direct interaction between business actors and consumers.

Shalihin assessed that strengthening UMKM requires not only business coaching and production capacity building but also accessible marketing spaces. “UMKM must continue to be given room to grow. Through activities like this, their products can become known to the public and the local economic wheel can keep turning,” he said.

Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Food Security Agency, Aris Siswanto, expressed full support for the activity, particularly in terms of food supply and availability. He emphasised that cross-agency cooperation is crucial to maintaining food supply stability while providing more affordable prices for the community. “We coordinated with the Cooperative Service, the Economic Bureau, Bulog, and other partners so that the food provided can reach the public. The hope is that the community can be helped in obtaining staple goods at lighter prices,” Aris said.

He added that the low-cost food bazaar is also part of efforts to maintain public access to food amid increasing household needs. Beyond kitchen necessities, the event also provided supporting items such as stationery, intended to assist families with school-age children. Public enthusiasm was evident from the first day of the bazaar, with residents coming to purchase staple goods at prices more affordable than general market rates.

Through this activity, the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government hopes the public can benefit directly, both in terms of food availability and more budget-friendly prices for staple goods. The low-cost food bazaar is also expected to serve as a momentum to strengthen collaboration between the government, UMKM actors, state-owned enterprises, business partners, and distribution networks in maintaining food security and driving the grassroots economy in Southeast Sulawesi.
