Southeast Asian Retail Traders Now Prioritise Execution Quality Amid Gold Volatility

Retail market participants in Southeast Asia are beginning to change their approach to gold trading amid high global volatility. Previously, the main focus was on price predictions, but now the quality of execution has become the determining factor in maintaining trading performance.

This shift is occurring alongside increasing global uncertainty that affects gold price movements as a safe-haven asset. Inflation pressures, interest rate dynamics, geopolitical conditions, and exchange rate fluctuations are factors driving rapid and unpredictable price movements.

Based on analysis from JustMarkets, there is a gap between trading strategies and the results obtained, one of which is influenced by the quality of transaction execution.

“In highly volatile market conditions, spreads can widen and increase transaction costs. Additionally, rapid price movements during economic data releases can cause slippage, namely execution at a price different from the plan,” said a JustMarkets representative, quoted from a statement received on Thursday (2/4).

In addition to spreads, factors such as liquidity and execution speed are also considered increasingly crucial. Limitations in liquidity under certain market conditions can trigger price gaps, thus impacting trader transaction results.

Given these conditions, retail traders are now shifting their focus not only to price direction but also to platform stability, price transparency, and execution consistency.

However, several challenges remain, such as excessive use of leverage amid high volatility, and the tendency to transact during economic data releases without considering changes in spreads and liquidity.

“There is still the assumption that all trading platforms have the same conditions, whereas execution quality can differ,” the representative added.

On the other hand, the trend of education-based trading is increasing. Retail traders in the region are increasingly utilising demo accounts and simulations to understand market dynamics before using real funds.

According to JustMarkets, this development shows that the retail market in Southeast Asia is becoming more mature, with participants who not only rely on price predictions but also understand risks and technical conditions in trading.

As the number of retail traders increases, attention to aspects such as spread stability, liquidity access, and execution reliability is expected to become the main factors in determining transaction success amid an increasingly dynamic market.
