Southeast Asia launches new cup
SINGAPORE (Reuter): Southeast Asia announced a new biannual
soccer tournament for eight national teams yesterday aimed at
becoming the regional championship.
Singapore-based Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) said it would put
US$1.0 million into the inaugural competition scheduled for
September with Burma, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines,
Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam vying for the Tiger Cup.
The cup, named after the brewery's best-known beer, should
help "make real our dream for a true regional soccer
championship", Southeast Asia soccer chief Worrawi Makudi told a
news conference.
