The South Tangerang City Government has once again made its mark nationally. South Tangerang City secured the award for Third Best in the Java-Bali Region in the category of Poverty Alleviation and Stunting Reduction at the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Appreciation event held by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) of the Republic of Indonesia.

The award was given in recognition of the South Tangerang City Government’s commitment and performance in tackling poverty and accelerating stunting reduction in an integrated and sustainable manner. Besides receiving the award, the South Tangerang City Government also received appreciation funds amounting to Rp1 billion from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The award was handed over by the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Maruarar Sirait, to the Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, during the 2026 Outstanding Regional Government Appreciation event in Yogyakarta on Thursday (4/6).

In assessing this category, regional governments were evaluated based on their commitment and performance achievements in poverty alleviation and accelerating stunting reduction. Key aspects included cross-sector programme convergence, achievement of basic services, the effectiveness of interventions at the village or sub-district level, and the rate of decline in poverty and stunting figures as tangible development outcomes.

Previously, South Tangerang City had touched a stunting prevalence figure of 19.9 percent. This figure was successfully reduced to 9 percent. The target for 2027 is to bring the stunting prevalence rate in South Tangerang down to 7.05 percent. Meanwhile, the poverty rate in South Tangerang stands at 2.36 percent, the lowest in Banten Province.

Additionally, regional innovation served as an added value, demonstrating the regional government’s ability to deliver creative, adaptive solutions with a direct impact on the community.

Mayor of South Tangerang, Benyamin Davnie, expressed gratitude for the award achieved. According to him, this accomplishment is the result of the collective efforts of all regional apparatuses, stakeholders, and the community in supporting various development programmes oriented towards improving the quality of life of residents.

“Alhamdulillah, this award serves as motivation for us to continue strengthening efforts in poverty alleviation and accelerating stunting reduction in South Tangerang City. This is not just an achievement of the regional government, but also the result of collaboration from all elements of society who have supported various development programmes,” said Benyamin.

He stressed that the South Tangerang City Government will continue optimising programmes targeting vulnerable groups, improving access to health and education services, and strengthening integrated interventions down to the regional level.

“This award is a reminder that our work is not yet finished. We will continue to ensure all programmes are well-targeted, measurable, and provide real benefits to the community,” he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian stated that the award was given to regions demonstrating the best performance and able to deliver real impacts for the community through various development programmes.

The Home Affairs Minister added that the award also serves as a means to showcase various positive achievements of regional governments to the public. He assessed that many regional heads have successfully demonstrated good achievements and performance in running their administrations and thus deserve a space for appreciation.

“This award will continue, a second wave will follow in six more regions, but perhaps the topic will be different, it could be about clean cities, or public service management, and others,” he concluded.
