The South Tangerang City Government, in collaboration with the South Tangerang Pejuang Subuh (GPS) movement, has launched a comprehensive mosque digitalisation programme and inaugurated the GPS Digital Academy & Innovation Center. The initiative is designed to transform houses of worship into centres not only for religious rituals but also for digital literacy and technological innovation for the younger generation.

Head of the South Tangerang City Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo), TB Asep Nurdin, stated that strengthening digital literacy for Islamic students (santri) and mosque youth is crucial amidst the rapid pace of technological advancement and the rampant spread of disinformation in cyberspace.

“Mosques must transform to keep up with the times. Through this mosque digitalisation and the presence of the GPS Digital Academy, we want to ensure that mosque youth in South Tangerang are not only strong in faith and morals but also technologically proficient and ready to face the era of artificial intelligence,” Asep said on Friday (14/8/2026).

Asep explained that the GPS Digital Academy & Innovation Center was established to provide free, structured training for mosque youth. The training covers programming skills (coding), creative content creation, and the utilisation of artificial intelligence to encourage the emergence of a community-based economic ecosystem.

In addition to youth empowerment, the digitalisation programme also targets the modernisation of mosque institutional governance, particularly focusing on administrative efficiency, financial transparency, and the optimisation of digital-based da’wah media.

“Digital transformation in houses of worship is no longer just a discourse but an urgent necessity so that administrative governance, finances, and da’wah to the community can run more effectively and openly,” he added.
