South Tangerang Lawyer Explains Reasons for Reporting Former UGM BEM Chair Tiyo Ardianto to Police

Former Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Student Executive Board (BEM) chairman Tiyo Ardiyanto has been reported to the South Tangerang Police by lawyer Firdaus Oiwobo. Firdaus stated the report was filed over alleged insults against the President or Head of State.

“I am reporting the former BEM President of UGM because he insulted the Head of State, Mr Prabowo Subianto, insulted Mas Gibran, and defamed the SPPG and MBG,” Firdaus said in a personal Instagram post, as quoted by detikNews on Wednesday. Firdaus has given detikcom permission to quote him.

Tiyo was reported under allegations of Article 263 of the Criminal Code, Law Number 1 of 2023, and/or Articles 433 and 434 of the Criminal Code. Firdaus believes Tiyo engaged in incitement against the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.

“He also repeatedly insulted and defamed Mr Prabowo’s programme. That is why today I am going after him,” he said.

He also intends to report other parties, though he did not specify who. Firdaus warned Tiyo not to personally attack state officials when voicing criticism.

“I will report others later. I am not playing around. I am indeed a serial reporter, a serial demand-letter sender. Alhamdulillah, many have been imprisoned. Today, many people are also being processed at district and regional police headquarters based on my reports,” he said.

“Tiyo, you are a newcomer, just recently became an activist. Being critical is allowed, but do not insult. Do not attack Mr Prabowo personally. Do not insult Mas Gibran. If you insult, I will go after you. You know me? I will go after you,” he explained.

The report against former UGM BEM chairman Tiyo Ardianto was confirmed by South Tangerang Police Public Relations Section Head, Ipda Yudhi Susanto.

“Confirming the existence of a report on behalf of Firdaus Oiwobo. Correct, the reported party is Tiyo Ardianto,” said Ipda Yudhi Susanto when contacted on Wednesday.

The report is now being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the South Tangerang Metropolitan Police. Police are still conducting a deeper probe into the report.
