South Tangerang Government Blacklists Fun Run Organiser After Participant Protests
The South Tangerang (Tangsel) City Government has imposed sanctions on the event organiser (EO) of a fun walk and run that drew widespread protests from participants. The city government has blacklisted the EO.
“The South Tangerang City Youth and Sports Office does not recommend/strikes off the event organiser from holding any further activities in the South Tangerang City area,” said Deden Umaidi, Head of the Sports Division at the South Tangerang Youth and Sports Office, when contacted on Monday (3/8/2026).
Deden stated that the South Tangerang City Government had never entered into any cooperation with the EO. He said the EO had harmed the city government by displaying the South Tangerang City Government logo in its event promotions.
“The use of the South Tangerang City Government and the South Tangerang City Youth and Sports Office logos in the publication materials was an error on the part of the organiser,” he explained. “They had not completed coordination and communication before including the logo, thus causing misunderstanding among the public,” he continued.
EO Apologises
The Tangsel Fun Walk and Run event drew widespread protests from participants and was marred by chaos during its execution. The EO issued an apology for the disruption.
The apology was delivered by a man named Ditya, the responsible committee chair for the South Tangsel Fun Walk and Run Festival 2026 at ITC BSD. The apology video was posted via the Fun Walk & Run Festival Instagram account, @funwalkfestival.
“I apologise profusely to all parties involved, including participants, the South Tangerang City Government, ITC BSD as the venue, and the sponsors who joined this event,” said Ditya on Monday (3/8). He stated that the execution of the event was his responsibility and that no other parties were involved.
“For participants who have not yet received their medals, please DM the funwalkfestival Instagram account by sending a photo of your BIB,” he said.
Previously, a video showing participants of the fun walk and run in South Tangerang protesting went viral on social media. South Tangerang Deputy Mayor Pilar Saga Ichsan urged the organiser to take responsibility.
The incident occurred on Sunday (2/8). In the video, one participant held a microphone and expressed their disappointment, stating they would pursue the matter through legal channels.
“Participants arrived to start at 06:00 WIB, but suspicions arose when there were no signs of any race committee members, only bike marshals,” said Ramses, a participant’s parent. He said participants were not given medals upon reaching the finish line. According to him, participants were informed that the medals were still in transit from Bandung. He said disappointed participants chose to go home. Shortly afterwards, a car carrying the medals arrived to distribute them to those still at the location.
