South Tangerang Communication and Informatics Office Partners with FSPP to Strengthen AI Literacy in Islamic Boarding Schools
The South Tangerang Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo) has partnered with the Islamic Boarding School Communication Forum (FSPP) to strengthen digital literacy within pesantren environments. This collaboration promotes the utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) in religious educational institutions.
Head of Diskominfo Tangsel, TB Asep Nurdin, explained that this cooperation is a local government effort to ensure all levels of society have equal access in the digital era. ‘This collaboration aims to strengthen digital transformation in pesantren through the provision of reliable free internet services and digital capacity building programmes for students. This is a form of the South Tangerang City Government’s commitment to ensuring that all levels of society, including pesantren, have equal access and opportunities in facing the digital era,’ Asep said in a statement on Friday (14/8/2026).
He conveyed this during the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the Al-Urwatul Wutsqa Hall, Pondok Pesantren Al-Amanah Al-Gontory, Parigi Baru, Pondok Aren, on Thursday (30/7/2026). Asep revealed that the collaboration is designed to achieve a number of specific targets, from infrastructure equity to the creation of an inclusive digital ecosystem within the pesantren environment.
‘The objectives of this cooperation include providing free internet access for all pesantren in South Tangerang City as a means of learning, preaching, and innovation development. In addition, we want to improve the digital literacy of students so they can use technology intelligently, productively, safely, and responsibly, as well as encourage the emergence of students with competencies in information technology, digital entrepreneurship, and the creative economy,’ he explained.
Asep added that the programme is also directed at developing a digital ecosystem for pesantren and strengthening collaboration to realise an inclusive South Tangerang Smart City. Regarding the positive impacts, Asep outlined the tangible benefits that will be felt by the pesantren, the students, and the local government in a sustainable manner.
‘For pesantren, this programme provides internet access to support the teaching and learning process, easy access to reliable scientific and Islamic references, improved administrative quality, and the opening of networks between pesantren. For students, they will have good digital literacy skills, master IT skills needed in the workplace, be able to become positive content creators and digital preachers, and be equipped to become digital entrepreneurs,’ he explained.
For the South Tangerang City Government, Asep continued, this step can improve the community’s digital literacy index, accelerate access equity, support superior human resources towards Golden Indonesia 2045, and encourage digital economic growth based on Islamic values. To realise these targets, Asep mentioned that his office has prepared ten concrete collaborative programme pillars that will be directly implemented in the field.
‘This collaborative programme includes providing free internet services in all pesantren, digital literacy training, cyber security training, digital marketing training, Artificial Intelligence (AI) training for education and business, creative content creation training, MSME digital training, digital transformation assistance for pesantren, inter-student digital innovation competitions, and the formation of a South Tangerang Digital Santri Community,’ he said.
He stressed that this step is real proof of the state’s presence in equalising access to technology in the religious education sector. ‘Pesantren are an important part of the education ecosystem in South Tangerang, so that students and caregivers are not left behind in the safe use of AI,’ Asep asserted. ‘Through the synergy built between the local government and the pesantren network, South Tangerang is optimistic that it can become a pioneer of inclusive digital transformation and position pesantren as modern civilisation centres ready to face the digital society era,’ he concluded.
