South Tangerang City Government Supports Digital-Based Mosques Through Free Internet

The South Tangerang City Government, Banten Province, has installed free internet access in 755 mosques and prayer rooms (mushala) to support educational activities, preaching, access to information, and digital-based public services.

“Mosques must level up. They should not only serve as places of worship but also as centres for literacy, information, community education, and even digital-based community empowerment,” stated the Head of the South Tangerlag City Communication and Informatics Office, Asep Nurdin, in a statement in Tangerang on Tuesday.

He noted that the digitalisation of mosques is a strategic step towards creating places of worship that are adaptive to modern developments without losing religious values. Consequently, the South Tangerang City Government is inviting all mosque administrators in the region to utilise digital technology to expand Islamic outreach and community empowerment.

“We are also encouraging the strengthening of digital literacy among the public and the management of digital information media within mosques to ensure this technology-based ecosystem operates optimally,” he added.

Regarding the free internet programme, Asep continued that it has currently been installed at 5,000 various public facility points. Of that total, 755 points are specifically located in mosques and prayer rooms.

“This is part of the development of the South Tangerang City Smart City ecosystem, which aims to expand digital access equitably, including within religious facilities,” he said.

Furthermore, the ‘Safari Subuh’ programme conducted by the South Tangerang City Government serves as a positive step towards building a smart and religious generation.

“We want to revitalise mosques not only in terms of worship but also in aspects of education, social welfare, and community empowerment. Collaboration with the government is a positive step towards building a community that is spiritually strong and prepared to face the digital era,” said the Chairman of the Dawn Warrior Movement, Ustadz Sartono.
