South Tangerang city government issues advisory on Anak Krakatau volcanic ash
The public is urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to implement health protection measures according to their respective environmental conditions. Protect yourself and your family from exposure to volcanic ash.
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The South Tangerang City Government in Banten, through its Health Office, has issued an advisory to the public regarding the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, ranging from the use of N95 masks to increasing water consumption to help maintain bodily health.
Head of the South Tangerang Health Office, Allin Hendalin Mahdaniar, said in Tangerang on Sunday that volcanic ash can cause health problems if inhaled, as well as if it comes into contact with the eyes and skin.
Therefore, she said, the public is advised to take health protection measures, especially when the air appears hazy, dusty, or when volcanic ash is present in the surrounding environment.
“N95 masks are recommended to help filter small particles, including volcanic ash. Medical masks can be used as additional protection if N95 masks are not available,” said Allin.
She urged the public to remain indoors if volcanic ash spreads thickly. In addition, she advised cleaning the eyes and nose with clean water if exposed to ash, washing hands and face after outdoor activities, and regularly cleaning ash that accumulates on roofs, yards, and drainage channels.
She also advised against burning rubbish or other materials that could worsen air quality, and urged caution when driving as volcanic ash can reduce visibility.
“Increase water consumption to help maintain bodily health and follow information updates only from official government sources and relevant agencies,” she said.
“The public is expected to remain calm, vigilant, and to implement health protection measures according to their respective environmental conditions. Protect yourself and your family from exposure to volcanic ash,” she said.
