The Head of South Sumatra’s Transport Authority (Dishub Sumsel), Musni Wijaya, announced in Palembang on Wednesday that traffic management measures would be implemented from 13 to 30 March 2026, particularly at congestion-prone points such as the Betung area and Pulau Rimau.

Traffic flow will be regulated by strategically utilising toll road lanes and controlling vehicle entry and exit points to prevent traffic meeting on narrow arterial roads.

“We have prepared a traffic management plan together with the toll road operator. Vehicles from Palembang are planned to exit at Pangkalan Balai, whilst those from Jambi will enter through the Pulau Rimau toll exit to avoid traffic congestion on smaller arterial roads,” he said.

Additionally, the Authority is ensuring road infrastructure readiness. The National Road Execution Centre (BBPJN) is targeting completion of road repairs so that by seven days before Eid, there are no potholes that could disrupt traffic flow.

All personnel and support facilities, including assistance posts at seven terminals and airports, have been prepared to provide maximum service to residents travelling during the return migration period.

Besides traffic management, South Sumatra’s Transport Authority is also implementing operational restrictions on certain freight transport in accordance with a joint decision letter during the period to anticipate traffic congestion.
