South Sumatra Records 380 New HIV/AIDS Cases Up to May 2026

The South Sumatra Health Office (Dinkes Sumsel) has recorded 380 new HIV/AIDS cases in the region from January to May 2026, with 28 of those infected reported to have died. Ira Primadesa Ogatiyah, Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division at the South Sumatra Health Office, stated that the new findings consisted of 249 HIV cases and 131 AIDS cases. Palembang city recorded the highest number of new cases with 203, followed by Lubuklinggau with 27 cases, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency with 17 cases, and Muara Enim and Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regencies with 16 cases each. Prabumulih City and Banyuasin Regency each reported 14 cases. Other areas reported fewer than 10 cases, with South OKU Regency recording the lowest number at just one AIDS case. Ogatiyah noted that the group with the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases was men who have sex with men (MSM). Cumulatively, the number of HIV/AIDS cases in South Sumatra from 2011 to May 2026 has reached 8,188 cases, comprising 4,767 HIV cases and 3,425 AIDS cases.
