Palembang (ANTARA) - The province of South Sumatra has received 18 sacrificial cows as aid from President Prabowo Subianto to be distributed during the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah celebrations.

The Head of the South Sumatra Food Security and Livestock Agency (DKPP), Ruzuan Effendi, stated in Palembang on Monday that all the provided cattle have undergone a strict selection process and are confirmed to be in healthy condition.

“Since the inauguration of the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia, there has been a change in the mechanism. Consequently, all regencies/cities across Indonesia, plus one province, are receiving aid cattle. South Sumatra is receiving 18 cows because the province comprises 17 regencies/cities,” he said.

He explained that all selected cattle have a weight of over 950 kilograms, with some even exceeding 1.1 tonnes. The selection process prioritised body weight as an indicator of animal health before proceeding to a thorough physical examination.

The health of all presidential aid cattle continues to be monitored, and they are being provided with vitamins to ensure they remain in peak condition until the handover.

Currently, the agency is finalising the distribution administration while awaiting further instructions from the Presidential Secretariat regarding the handover schedule, which is expected to take place virtually.

For the distribution, the provincial-level aid is planned to be handed over to the Taqwa Mosque, while the aid for Palembang City will be distributed to the Nurul Huda prayer room.
