South Sumatra Provincial Government Encourages Investment Opportunities in South Sumatra at China–Indonesia Forum of Political and Business Leaders
Jakarta — The South Sumatra Provincial Government is promoting investment opportunities in the province with foreign partners, notably China. This was revealed when South Sumatra Deputy Governor Cik Ujang attended a dinner at the China–Indonesia Forum of Political and Business Leaders, a DBA Programme, Batch XII CKGBSP, at The Residence ONFIVE, Grand Hyatt Jakarta, on Friday evening, 22 May 2026.
A number of political figures, regional heads, and businesspeople from Indonesia and China were present.
In the forum, Deputy Governor Cik Ujang held direct discussions with Chinese entrepreneurs about investment cooperation opportunities and the development of business in various strategic sectors in South Sumatra.
He said South Sumatra has great potential in the energy, plantation, culture, and tourism sectors, which can be developed through collaboration with foreign investors.
Coal, palm oil, and rubber remain the province’s main economic strengths and hold promising long-term investment prospects, he said.
Additionally, the provincial government introduced plans for the New Port of Tanjung Carat, prepared to become a strategic export port in South Sumatra. He said the development of the port would strengthen the logistics system and support increased regional export activity.
Infrastructure development is one of the key steps in creating a more conducive investment climate and accelerating regional economic growth.
“Later we will invite them directly to South Sumatra to see the various potentials,” he asserted.
It was noted that the South Sumatra Provincial Government continues to open spaces for cooperation with various parties to support regional development and improve welfare.

Meanwhile, Zhenghe Island Executive Director, Mr Shi, welcomed the briefing delivered by the South Sumatra Provincial Government. He said he was attracted by the potential of South Sumatra and planned to schedule a direct visit to the region.
The visit is expected to open more concrete cooperation opportunities between Chinese investors and the South Sumatra Provincial Government.
Also present at the event were Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi, Banten Governor Andra Soni, the Head of the PUBM Office, and the Head of the South Sumatra Economic Bureau.
