Palembang (ANTARA) - The South Sumatra Provincial Government is empowering Public Information and Documentation Officers (PPID) in the province to enhance the active role of the community in overseeing government administration. “As a channel for public information, PPID is being further empowered to increase the active role of the community in monitoring public services and the implementation of regional development,” said Deputy Governor of South Sumatra Cik Ujang in Palembang on Monday. He explained that the pattern of relations between the government and the community has changed; communities in the 17 regencies and cities in the province expect transparent and interactive two-way relations. Through PPID in every regional device organisation (OPD), he said, it is hoped that they will actively socialise procedures for the public to obtain public information in accordance with Law No. 14 of 2008 on Public Information Disclosure and related regulations. In accordance with that law, government transparency encourages every public body to provide information that is fast, timely, low-cost, and in a simple manner. Public information disclosure is a means to optimise public oversight of state administration and other public bodies as well as everything that affects public interests. The management of public information is one of the efforts to develop information so that it is known widely by the community, he said. According to him, his side continues to encourage the enhancement of the role and function of PPID as a centre for informative information services for communities in regencies and cities. The performance of PPID is very important as a channel for information openness in implementing good governance to realise transparent, accountable government administration and to encourage the widest possible public participation, explained the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra.
