Palembang (ANTARA) - The South Sumatra Provincial Government is covering the costs of repatriating victims of the Antar Lintas Sumatera (ALS) bus accident, including the provision of coffins and facilities for the victims’ families who are still awaiting DNA identification results in Palembang.

The Head of the South Sumatra Health Office, Trisnawarman, in Palembang on Monday, stated that the assistance is being provided under the direction of the South Sumatra Governor to help the victims’ families during the identification process.

“The Governor, on behalf of the South Sumatra Provincial Government, is continuing to assist the families of patients who are still in Palembang by accommodating them at Hotel Amaris, with their meals also covered,” he said.

He explained that currently, eight victims’ families are being facilitated with accommodation and meals while in Palembang. These families come from Muratara, Medan, and as far as Java Island.

In addition, the South Sumatra Provincial Government is coordinating with the North Sumatra Provincial Government regarding the repatriation of eight bodies to Medan, as well as preparing the transport of victims from Lampung and North Musi Rawas.

Coffins for the victims have also been prepared and will be dispatched shortly after the DNA identification results from the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team are completed.

“The coffins are ready to be dispatched once the DNA results are finalised. Hopefully, there will be no issues and the dispatch will proceed smoothly,” he clarified.
