South Sumatra Police's Swift Response Saves Abandoned Baby in Banyuasin

The Banyuasin Police, part of the South Sumatra Regional Police, acted swiftly on a public report regarding the discovery of an abandoned baby girl in Hamlet II, Talang Ipuh Village, Suak Tapeh District, Banyuasin Regency. The baby was found alive and was successfully rescued. The infant, estimated to be only one day old, was discovered by residents on Wednesday (1/7/2026). Upon receiving the report, personnel from the Betung Police Station and the Banyuasin Police immediately went to the location and evacuated the baby for medical treatment. Banyuasin Police Chief AKBP Risnan Aldino personally led the response to ensure the baby’s safety. The baby was then taken to Banyuasin Regional General Hospital for a health examination. According to the medical team’s examination, the baby, weighing approximately 2.9 kilograms, is in a healthy condition and is now receiving intensive care. In addition to ensuring the victim’s health, the Banyuasin Police are coordinating with the Talang Ipuh Village Government, the Banyuasin Regency Social Services, and other relevant agencies to guarantee the protection and fulfilment of the baby’s rights in accordance with the law. This coordination is part of efforts to provide comprehensive protection for the victim. The Banyuasin Police Criminal Investigation Unit, through its Women and Children Service Unit, is conducting an investigation to identify the party responsible for the suspected abandonment. Police are also gathering witness statements, processing the crime scene, and exploring all information related to the incident. AKBP Risnan stressed that the investigation will be carried out professionally until all facts are uncovered. ‘We have coordinated with all relevant agencies to ensure the baby receives proper care. In addition, we have ordered the Women and Children Service Unit of the Banyuasin Police Criminal Investigation Unit to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover who is responsible for this abandonment,’ he stated. Meanwhile, South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, expressed appreciation for the public’s concern in promptly reporting the incident so the baby could be rescued immediately. ‘We appreciate the public’s concern in quickly providing information to the police.
