South Sumatra Police Return Evidence to Crime Victims
The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) have returned evidence from criminal cases to their rightful owners. The activity was led by South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho as part of the ‘Sabuk Kamtibmas’ (Security and Public Order Belt) assembly at the Palembang City Police Headquarters.
This step is an implementation of ‘Polri Presisi’ (Precision Police), which is oriented towards justice, restoring victims’ rights, and improving public services. The return of evidence also serves as proof that the success of law enforcement is not only measured by the number of perpetrators arrested, but also by the state’s ability to restore the rights of the community.
Sandi emphasised that restoring victims’ rights is a crucial part of a just law enforcement process. This policy aligns with the National Police’s efforts to support government programmes in providing a sense of security, legal certainty, and protection of citizens’ rights.
“Just law enforcement is not only oriented towards punishing the perpetrators, but most importantly, how the state is present to restore the rights of crime victims. We ensure that all evidence with legal certainty is returned to its owners transparently, professionally, and free of charge,” Sandi stated on Tuesday (28/7/2026).
During the event, the South Sumatra Police Chief symbolically returned five motorcycles and one mobile phone from the resolution of vehicle theft and violent theft cases to their owners. All items had undergone the investigation process and had legal certainty.
The returned evidence included a Honda Scoopy belonging to Mafiro Gita Romadona, a Yamaha N-Max belonging to Indah Pratiwi, a Kaisar cargo vehicle belonging to Joko Mulyono, a Honda Beat belonging to Ferlin, a black Honda Beat belonging to Bonie Hartono, and a mobile phone secured by investigators.
In addition to returning evidence, the Police Chief also presented awards to two residents, M. Reza Pahlevi and M. Ikbal, for their bravery in thwarting a violent theft involving a firearm at an Alfamart on Jalan Ali Gatmir, 10 Ilir Subdistrict, Ilir Timur II District, Palembang. During the incident, Reza suffered a gunshot wound to his ribs and waist, while Ikbal sustained a stab wound to his thigh from the perpetrator’s resistance.
Palembang City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Sonny Mahar Budi Adityawan stated that maintaining security cannot be separated from active community participation in assisting police duties. “Security is not solely the responsibility of the Police, but our shared responsibility. The courage of citizens who help prevent crime is a form of concern that deserves appreciation and should serve as an example for others,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, affirmed that returning evidence to victims is a form of public service oriented towards the community’s interests. This is also part of the National Police’s commitment to building public trust.
Going forward, the South Sumatra Regional Police will continue to provide humane, just, and community-oriented police services. This is in line with the ‘Polri Presisi’ vision to create a conducive security and public order situation to support national development and improve the welfare of the people in Bumi Sriwijaya.

Every successful uncovering of a criminal case must provide tangible benefits to the community, including ensuring that victims’ rights can be restored quickly in accordance with applicable legal provisions,” concluded Nandang.
