South Sumatra Police Renovate Resident's Home for Indonesia's 81st Independence Day
The momentum of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence was used by the South Sumatra Regional Police to deliver direct benefits to the community. Through the South OKU Resort Police, the South Sumatra Police inaugurated a home renovation programme while distributing social assistance to residents in Hamlet V, Gunung Terang Village, Buay Sandang Aji District, South OKU Regency.
The activity was led by South OKU Police Chief AKBP I Made Redi Hartana, accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Kompol H. Dovan Dwi Putra, along with several senior officials of the South OKU Resort Police.
The home renovation programme is a form of the National Police’s concern in helping the community obtain decent, safe, and healthy housing. The presence of this programme also demonstrates that the police’s service is realised not only through maintaining public security and order, but also through social actions that provide direct benefits to residents.
The inaugurated house measures 9 by 12.5 metres and belongs to Ruskumala Dewi (54), a resident of Gunung Terang Village. The inauguration was carried out symbolically through a ribbon-cutting by the South OKU Police Chief after an opening ceremony and communal prayer.
After the inauguration, I Made Redi Hartana and his staff handed over social assistance directly to the beneficiary community. The activity then continued with a friendly gathering with village officials and residents as part of efforts to strengthen communication, closeness, and partnership between the police and the community.
I Made Redi Hartana said the programme is part of the National Police’s commitment to remain present and provide benefits that can be felt directly by the community.
“We are committed to continuing to be present in the community, not only in maintaining security and order, but also providing real contributions that have an impact on improving residents’ welfare. This home renovation programme and social assistance are a form of our concern for communities in need,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (18/8/2026).
According to him, the spirit of independence must continue to be realised through care, mutual cooperation, and joint work. The synergy between the National Police, local government, village officials, and the community is considered an important strength in building an environment that is increasingly safe, comfortable, and prosperous.
Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Regional Police, Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, affirmed that the South Sumatra Police encourages all ranks to continue presenting activities that benefit the community, including through social programmes that directly touch residents’ needs.
“The National Police must be present and its benefits felt by the community. This home renovation programme is one concrete form of that concern. Besides maintaining public order and security, we want the police’s presence to also provide social contributions that can help improve the quality of life of the community,” he said.
He added that social conditions and community welfare are linked to the creation of a safe and conducive environment. Therefore, collaboration between the police, local government, and all elements of society needs to be continuously strengthened so that various social problems can be addressed together.
The inauguration of the home renovation and the distribution of social assistance in the momentum of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence are part of the South Sumatra Police’s commitment to bringing services closer to the community.
