South Sumatra Police Move Quickly to Extinguish Forest and Land Fires in OKI

The South Sumatra Regional Police, through its Samapta Directorate, moved quickly to handle forest and land fires around the PT PAR area in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency.

The response was carried out as part of Operation Aman Nusa II to prevent the fire from spreading while protecting the public from the impact of fires and smoke haze.

Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, said the rapid response is part of the police’s commitment to protecting the public from the threat of forest and land fires, including the risk of health problems caused by smoke haze.

“Every hotspot must be dealt with as quickly as possible so that it does not develop and cause a wider impact. We ensure that personnel in the field continue to work optimally and coordinate with all relevant parties to protect the public,” said Nandang in a written statement on Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Personnel were placed on standby at the Forest and Land Fire Post of PT PAR Hikmah Dua, Pulau Geronggang Village, within the jurisdiction of the Pedamaran Timur Police, OKI Police. Four personnel from the Samapta Directorate of the South Sumatra Police were deployed to strengthen firefighting efforts at the location on Tuesday (18/8).

The handling was led by the Aman Nusa II Forest and Land Fire Field Coordinator of the Pedamaran Timur Police, First Inspector Dendry Robby Ariadi. Personnel swept hotspots and carried out direct spraying using firefighting facilities and infrastructure available at the post.

The measure was taken to accelerate the handling of every hotspot so that the spread of fire can be suppressed as early as possible. In addition to firefighting, personnel also secured the surrounding area to ensure the handling process runs safely and the situation remains conducive.

Director of Samapta of the South Sumatra Police, Senior Commissioner Ridwan, continued to monitor the readiness and implementation of personnel duties in the field. The monitoring was carried out to ensure that mitigation measures under Operation Aman Nusa II run effectively, measurably, and adapt to developments in conditions at the fire location.

In its implementation, the police also coordinated with the company and relevant stakeholders at the regional level. This synergy is an important part of accelerating firefighting and preventing the emergence or spread of hotspots to other areas.

Nandang also urged the public and corporations not to clear land by burning. If they find hotspots or signs of fire, the public is asked to immediately report them to the police or the nearest forest and land fire post so that early handling can be carried out.

Through Operation Aman Nusa II, the South Sumatra Police are strengthening preparedness and synergy in tackling forest and land fires in vulnerable areas. A rapid response to every hotspot is expected to reduce the potential for fires to spread, reduce the impact of smoke haze, and maintain public health, security, and activities running well.
