South Sumatra Police Launch 'Presisi Labour Café' as Industrial Relations Dialogue Space
The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) has introduced a new public service innovation with the inauguration of the Presisi Labour Café. This innovation serves as a labour dialogue space integrated with an Industrial Relations Post. The facility, located on Jalan Jenderal A. Yani in Palembang, is the first of its kind at the regional police level in Indonesia. It forms part of the National Police’s Labour Desk implementation to strengthen harmonious industrial relations.
Deputy Chief of South Sumatra Police, Brigadier General Pol. Rony Samtana, stated that the Presisi Labour Café is a shared home for all workers and labour stakeholders in South Sumatra. “We present the Presisi Labour Café as a place for fellowship, a dialogue space, and a forum to find joint solutions to various labour issues. This place belongs to everyone and must be utilised to build good communication so that industrial relations remain harmonious and the security situation stays conducive. The Police cannot work alone in maintaining security. Therefore, we invite all elements of society, including trade unions, to become strategic partners in maintaining stability in South Sumatra,” he said in a written statement on Saturday.
Head of Public Relations for Polda Sumsel, Senior Commissioner Pol. Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, added that the café represents a tangible transformation of police services to be closer to the community. “The Presisi Labour Café is not just a gathering place, but a symbol of the state’s presence through the Police in listening, facilitating, and finding solutions to labour issues. We hope this facility becomes a productive communication space, strengthening synergy between workers, employers, the government, and the police to create healthy, productive industrial relations and maintain security stability and economic growth in South Sumatra,” he added.
The inauguration of the Presisi Labour Café was held today. The event began with a dialogue with representatives from ten trade union organisations across South Sumatra, led by Brigadier General Pol. Rony Samtana. Fifty representatives from ten worker and labour organisations participated in an open dialogue as a platform to convey aspirations while strengthening the partnership between the Police and the workforce.
The Presisi Labour Café was built as a more open, humanistic, and easily accessible communication space for workers and business actors. Besides providing an informal discussion area, the facility is also equipped with an Industrial Relations Post staffed by personnel from the Intelligence and Security, Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, and the South Sumatra Police Labour Desk to provide assistance, receive information, facilitate the resolution of industrial relations issues, and strengthen early detection of potential labour conflicts. Within the complex, there is also space for MSMEs as a form of support for the economic empowerment of workers’ families.
The existence of the Presisi Labour Café is an implementation of the National Police’s Presisi Programme initiated by National Police Chief General Drs. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, while also supporting the government’s agenda to build harmonious industrial relations, improve worker protection, maintain a healthy investment climate, and strengthen national economic stability. Through a dialogical approach, the Police are present not only as law enforcers but also as facilitators bridging communication between workers, companies, the government, and all stakeholders.
During the dialogue, trade union representatives expressed appreciation for the South Sumatra Police’s initiative, which they considered to present a new paradigm in the relationship between the Police and the workforce. According to them, the presence of the Presisi Labour Café provides a more comfortable, open, and equal communication space so that various labour issues can be discussed early before developing into wider conflicts. The trade union representatives also hoped that a similar concept could be replicated in all resort police stations under the South Sumatra Regional Police.
The South Sumatra Regional Police is committed to operating the Presisi Labour Café sustainably as a centre for communication, consultation, and collaboration in the labour sector. The presence of this facility is expected to become a model of humanistic and adaptive police service and to be developed at the resort police level as part of efforts to strengthen worker protection, maintain conducive industrial relations, and support sustainable national economic development.
