South Sumatra Police Forest Fire Task Force Deployed to Extinguish 3-Hectare Land Fire
The Aman Nusa II Forest and Land Fire Task Force was deployed to extinguish a forest and land fire in Ibul Besar I Village, Pemulakan District, Ogan Ilir Regency. The firefighting operation and hot-spot inspection took place on Wednesday (9/9).
Extinguishing efforts began around 4:00 PM WIB after officers detected fire points at the location. The area consumed by the blaze is estimated to be approximately seven hectares, of which about three hectares were successfully extinguished by officers.
The fire suppression process involved personnel from the Pemulutan Police Sector, the South Sumatra Regional Police Dit Samapta Pegayut Post, and the Ogan Ilir Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). The joint task force deployed several water pumps to control the flames. Strong winds at the site presented a major obstacle, causing the fire to spread easily.
Despite facing challenging weather conditions, the joint team persisted in fighting the fire until 10:30 PM WIB. The flames were eventually extinguished, leaving only white smoke at the site. To date, the initial cause of the fire remains unknown.
The Director of Samapta South Sumatra Police and Head of Opsda Aman Nusa II, Kombes Pol Ridwan Raja Dewa, highlighted the importance of personnel readiness in the field. Cross-agency coordination was identified as the key factor in handling forest fire threats quickly and precisely.
“We continue to optimise the deployment of personnel and infrastructure, especially in high-risk areas such as Ogan Ilir. This is to ensure that fire points can be controlled immediately before they spread and cause a larger impact,” Ridwan stated in a written report on Thursday (10/9/2026).
Echoing this sentiment, the Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Regional Police, Kombes Pol Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, emphasised his institution’s full commitment. His office is determined to continue protecting the community and preserving the environment from the threat of forest fires.
“We ensure that the entire series of forest fire handling operations runs maximally to provide a sense of security to the community,” Nandang asserted.
The South Sumatra Regional Police specifically urged the public and corporations not to clear land by burning. Residents are also requested to report immediately to the nearest post or authorities if they find signs of fire points in their surroundings.
