South Sumatra Police Distribute National Flags to PALI Residents Ahead of Independence Day
Ahead of the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence, the South Sumatra Regional Police, through the Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir (PALI) Resort Police, has launched a Red and White Flag Distribution Movement for the public. The activity was carried out to encourage residents to enliven the independence commemoration while strengthening the spirit of unity in PALI Regency.
The Red and White Flag distribution movement was led by PALI Police Chief AKBP Januar Kencana Setia Persada, accompanied by Kompol Suprawira and a number of PALI Police and Talang Ubi Sector Police officials.
Through this activity, the PALI Police invited the public to fly the Red and White Flag in their respective neighbourhoods to enliven the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence. The presence of the national symbol in public spaces and residential areas is expected to strengthen pride as Indonesians and foster a spirit of togetherness in maintaining unity.
The movement is also seen as a means of strengthening the relationship between the Indonesian National Police and the community. The spirit of independence is expected to be realised not only through the display of the Red and White Flag, but also through care in creating a safe, orderly and conducive environment.
On this occasion, Januar emphasised the importance of public participation in enlivening the independence momentum while safeguarding the values of unity.
“Public involvement is an important part of continuing to maintain the national spirit and strengthening synergy in maintaining security and order in the PALI Regency area,” he said in a written statement on Monday (10/8/2026).
Meanwhile, South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya said the independence commemoration can serve as a space to strengthen togetherness between the police and the community.
“The Red and White Flag is not only a symbol of the state, but also a reminder of the spirit of unity and the struggle of our predecessors. Through this activity, we invite the public to jointly enliven the independence celebrations while continuing to maintain unity, security and a conducive environment,” he explained.
He said the closeness between the police and the community is an important element in maintaining public order and security. Therefore, various activities involving the public are expected to continue strengthening communication, care and a sense of ownership over neighbourhood security.
The South Sumatra Police and its ranks hope the 81st independence anniversary will not be merely ceremonial, but will become a momentum to strengthen nationalism, unity and togetherness between the police and the community in keeping PALI Regency safe and conducive.
