Palembang (ANTARA) – The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) destroyed narcotics evidence weighing 200 kilograms of cannabis following the seizure of a cannabis plantation covering around 20 hectares in Empat Lawang Regency on Tuesday.

The destruction of the evidence was led by the Sumsel Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, at the Empat Lawang Police Resort headquarters on Tuesday.

The Police Chief said the case disclosure forms part of the police’s commitment to eradicating drug circulation to the networks’ roots.

The evidence destroyed consisted of eight sacks of dried cannabis ready for distribution and one sack of wet cannabis, with a total weight of about 200 kilograms.

The economic value of the evidence is estimated at Rp500 million and could damage thousands of youths if circulated in the community.

‘Drug trafficking damages the younger generation of the nation. Therefore, we continue to develop scientific crime investigation by leveraging advances in technology to pursue this network to its roots,’ he said.

He explained that the case originated from Police Report Number: LP-A/05/II/2026/SPKT SAT RES NARKOBA/POLRES EMPAT LAWANG/POLDA SUMSEL dated 13 February 2026.

From investigations, officers of the Sumsel Police’s Directorate of Narcotics Investigation together with the Empat Lawang Narcotics Unit found a ready-to-harvest cannabis plantation spanning about 20 hectares in the Bukit Talang Sungai Udang area, Empat Lawang Regency.

In the case, police named five suspects, namely RS and A who have been arrested, while three others initials EA, YA, and PHR remain at large (DPO).

The Police Chief also instructed all ranks to strengthen cross-sector synergy and increase surveillance in remote areas prone to drug networks.
