The South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) held a readiness roll call for securing International Labour Day (May Day) to ensure that the series of workers’ aspiration expressions runs smoothly and orderly. Polda Sumsel has prepared a total of 3,432 personnel. Of the 3,432 personnel, 664 are from Polda Sumsel’s work units and 2,768 from police resorts across Sumsel. The synergy for securing May Day 2026 is also strengthened by elements from the TNI and local government. The security personnel have been placed at various strategic points. “Polda Sumsel has prepared 3,432 personnel from Polda and its subordinate police resorts for securing the 2026 Labour Day commemoration. In this security effort, Polda Sumsel is also backed by 800 personnel from the TNI and 200 personnel from the Local Government as well as related stakeholders,” said the Head of Public Relations of Polda Sumsel, Senior Commissioner Muhammad Anis Prasetio Santoso, in a written statement on Friday (1/5/2026). After the roll call, all personnel immediately stood guard and monitored every mass activity. In its implementation, Polda Sumsel emphasises security that prioritises the humanistic aspect. Senior Commissioner Anis stated that the police are present not merely as security guards, but as servants providing full protection for workers in voicing their constitutional rights. According to him, a persuasive and dialogic approach serves as the main instrument in the field to bridge communication between the action masses and the police. “The main principle upheld is that there is no holiday in police work serving the community. Personnel will remain vigilant in providing the best service until the entire Labour Day commemoration series truly ends peacefully and without public order disturbances,” he said. According to him, this effort is concrete evidence of Polda Sumsel’s commitment to upholding the dignity of democracy, where people’s aspirations are respected as highly as possible within a robust security framework. He assured that every pulse of community activity in Sumsel continues normally, reflecting strong synergy between apparatus, government, and labour elements.
