South Sumatra Police Cover Hospital and Funeral Costs for Deceased Baby in Palembang
The humanitarian action was carried out by Constable M Kadapi, who was moved to assist the family of the late baby Keyvano Affinata Alfarez (5 months). Previously, baby Keyvano had undergone intensive care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) before passing away on Monday, 18 May 2026, due to coma and respiratory arrest.
Amid profound grief, the family faced financial hardship. As they were not registered with BPJS Kesehatan, they had to bear the full medical costs themselves, making it difficult to arrange the funeral.
Upon learning of the family’s situation, Constable M Kadapi spontaneously provided personal funds to settle the outstanding hospital bills. Furthermore, the Water Police Unit officer directly accompanied the family in transporting the body from the mourning house in Lemabang to the final resting place at Kandang Kawat Public Cemetery in Palembang.
This swift and humanitarian action is considered a true representation of the Polri Penolong initiative and the implementation of the Precision Program. South Sumatra Police Water Police Unit Director, Senior Commissioner Heru Agung Nugroho, stated that his officer’s actions embody the essence of police service values.
“This action is a concrete implementation of the Polri Penolong concept. Our officers on the ground must always be present with empathy and provide assistance to the public facing disasters or difficulties,” said Senior Commissioner Heru on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
Similarly, South Sumatra Police Public Relations Head, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stated that the South Sumatra Police remain committed to providing direct services to meet the needs of vulnerable communities.
“The presence of police officers when the public needs assistance is a tangible form of service. This not only eases the burden on citizens but also maintains harmony, social solidarity, and security stability within the community,” Senior Commissioner Nandang emphasised.
