South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho received a visit from SKK Migas Southern Sumatra regional officials, reaffirming his commitment to maintaining the stability of the national energy sector.

The meeting, held at the Delegation Room of the South Sumatra Regional Police Headquarters on Monday (23/2/2026), represented a concrete step in overseeing the acceleration of oil and gas lifting whilst ensuring all upstream oil and gas activities operate within the legal framework. The energy sector forms part of the Strategic National Vital Objects that must be safeguarded for national resilience.

The delegation was led by the Special Staff to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources for the Acceleration of Legal Problem Resolution, Commissioner General Rudy Sufahriadi, and Lifting Task Force Chairman Nanang Abdul Manaf. Several senior South Sumatra Regional Police officials accompanied the Police Chief.

In his remarks, Sandi emphasised the importance of comprehensive verification of every oil well site. The verification is intended to ensure land legality, regulatory certainty, and to anticipate potential social conflicts within communities.

“Every well site must have a clear legal basis and must not be located in disputed territory or prohibited zones. Legal certainty is the key to stability,” Sandi stated firmly.

As a concrete measure, Sandi proposed the establishment of a Joint Cross-Agency Verification Team involving SKK Migas, Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS), local governments, and law enforcement agencies. The team would conduct factual checks and regulatory validation before operations commence.

South Sumatra Regional Police Public Relations Head Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya explained that securing the energy sector is not merely about physical security but also about ensuring business processes are conducted accountably and in accordance with the law.

“The South Sumatra Regional Police fully supports national strategic programmes in the energy sector. Security stability is the primary foundation for accelerating oil and gas lifting,” said Nandang.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General Rudy Sufahriadi expressed his appreciation for the South Sumatra Regional Police’s support. He stated SKK Migas’s readiness to conduct joint field verifications to guarantee data validity and legal certainty for all stakeholders.

This synergy underscores the active role of the South Sumatra Regional Police as the frontline guardian of national energy resilience whilst ensuring upstream oil and gas operations in the South Sumatra region remain free from security disruptions and social conflicts.
