South Sumatra Police Chief Presides Over Retirement Ceremony, Reminds of Bhayangkara Spirit

The South Sumatra Regional Police held a Retirement Ceremony for Police Members and Civil Servants of the Regional Police for the 2026 Fiscal Year. South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho directly led the release ceremony. A total of 187 personnel from all ranks of the South Sumatra Police officially entered their retirement period. Of that number, 68 personnel participated in the graduation procession and release tradition directly at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters. In his address, Inspector General Sandi emphasised a perspective on the meaning of success for a police officer. According to him, the highest achievement is not solely measured by high rank or position, but by the success of completing one’s service and returning to the family’s embrace in a state of health and safety. “The true success of a Polri member is being able to carry out service until retirement in health and safety. For those of us who are still serving and have not yet retired, it remains questionable whether we are successful or not. So, ladies and gentlemen, you should be proud to have graduated safely to this day,” the Police Chief stated before the retirees at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters on Thursday (2/7/2026). Attendees included South Sumatra Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Rony Samtana, the South Sumatra Police Chief Inspectorate Supervisor, the Chairperson of the South Sumatra Regional Bhayangkari and her board, and the Chairperson of the South Sumatra Police PP, retired Senior Commissioner Hj. Nani Marsini. During the event, the Police Chief gave special honour to retired Brigadier General Slamet Widodo, who represented all the graduates. The former Head of the South Sumatra Police SPN was openly mentioned by the Police Chief as a senior figure and role model mentor who had guided him extensively in the past. Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stated that this activity is the highest form of appreciation from the corps. According to him, the retirement graduation is not merely a ceremony, but a form of respect for personnel who have dedicated themselves. “This retirement graduation is not just a farewell ceremony, but a form of respect and institutional gratitude for the tireless dedication of our seniors. We ensure that the doors of the South Sumatra Police will always be wide open, because the inner bond of the Polri extended family will not be severed by a piece of decree,” said Senior Commissioner Nandang. After the ceremony in the Presisi Building, the series of activities continued with the tradition of releasing the graduates in the courtyard of the South Sumatra Police Headquarters. The South Sumatra Police Chief delivered a spirit-affirming message that was met with a rumble of emotion and pride. “Bhayangkara never retires. What retires is the personnel. But the honour of your service will never be broken, because you are Bhayangkara. Once Bhayangkara, always Bhayangkara,” said Inspector General Sandi. According to him, the retirement period is not a finish line, but a gateway to service in a new chapter. The proud brown uniform has now indeed been taken off and entrusted to the next generation. However, the noble values of Tribrata and the spirit of care that have been instilled over decades will continue to pulse within society, making them true protectors and guardians who are eternal beyond the limits of service time.
