South Sumatra Police Chief Personally Leads and Undergoes Urine Testing: Zero Tolerance on Drugs
Palembang, VIVA – South Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho personally led the conduct of urine tests on the Deputy Regional Police Chief, senior officials, and all personnel on the second floor of the Presisi Building at the South Sumatra Regional Police Headquarters on Monday, 23 February 2026.
This decisive step was a swift follow-up to leadership directives conveyed by the Deputy National Police Chief during a video conference on the Analysis and Evaluation of Public Security and Order on the same day. The South Sumatra Regional Police ensured that the zero-tolerance drug policy was applied without exception.
The examination began with the Regional Police Chief himself, alongside the Deputy Regional Police Chief and senior officials, as a demonstration of leadership by example. Subsequently, urine tests were conducted comprehensively on remaining personnel.
South Sumatra Regional Police Head of Public Relations Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya affirmed that the policy was not merely symbolic but a concrete measure to safeguard institutional integrity.
“Through this urine testing programme, the South Sumatra Regional Police is committed to implementing a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse by members of the Indonesian National Police,” said Nandang in a written statement on Monday, 23 February 2026.
He added that internal cleansing was the fundamental foundation before carrying out law enforcement in the wider community.
“Every violation will be processed through disciplinary, ethical code, or criminal proceedings in accordance with prevailing regulations, without exception,” he said.
The urine tests were conducted transparently and strictly supervised by the Professional and Security Division (Propam) of the South Sumatra Regional Police to guarantee the validity and accuracy of examination results. All medical procedures were carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures to prevent potential manipulation.
This measure affirms that the South Sumatra Regional Police is not only committed to eradicating drugs within the community but also to ensuring the institution itself is free from narcotics abuse.
