South Sumatra Police Chief Opens Rakerwas 2026, Urges Solution-Oriented Oversight
Inspector General Sandi Nugroho announced this when opening the Oversight Working Meeting (Rakerwas) of Itwasda Polda Sumsel and the Capability Enhancement Training (Latkatpuan) for the Oversight Function for the 2026 Budget Year, held in the Ballroom of The Alts Palembang Hotel on Wednesday 20 May 2026.
The strategic event was also attended by the Itwasda Polda Sumsel, Senior Commissioner of Police Feri Handoko, and the top officials (PJU) of Polda Sumsel. Also present were Auditors, Wakapolres, Kasiwas, and officers performing oversight functions across the Polda Sumsel ranks, as well as speakers from external oversight bodies, Ombudsman RI and the Audit Board (BPKP) Province of South Sumatra.
In his remarks, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho described oversight as the ‘heart’ of the organisation’s governance. Without oversight that is imbued with integrity, no matter how good the work plan, it can lose direction and control.
‘In this digital era, oversight must be able to adapt. Going forward, we need to push for stronger digital systems such as e-Wasda or e-audit, which can assist the verification, inspection, and documentation of oversight in a more orderly manner,’ he said.
The Police Chief gave a concrete example illustrating the importance of a digital database during the process of mutating or changing officers (Kapolsek or PJU Polres). To date, verification data has often been stored only in the form of manual reports.
With a digitally integrated system, newly appointed officers can easily access the track record of prior work programmes. This is crucial to prevent loss of accountability documents and to ensure the continuity of public service programmes.
He further highlighted the human resources aspect. He reminded that a sophisticated system must be accompanied by the integrity of the overseers. He likened the oversight function to a ‘broom’ charged with cleaning the institution.
‘It is not possible to clean a room with a dirty broom. If the broom is dirty, the room will not be clean, but will become dirtier. Let us begin with ourselves to become ’clean brooms’ for the Polri institution,’ he asserted.
The presence of Ombudsman RI and BPKP at the event was also welcomed by the Police Chief. He said this demonstrates that Polda Sumsel places transparency and objectivity first, and recognises that oversight cannot operate in secrecy or in isolation.
Inspector General Sandi also urged all Rakerwas participants to absorb the knowledge provided and to put it into practice.
‘Hard work makes us a robust institution. Smart work ensures that services reach the target. Thorough work is the way to meet public expectations, and sincere work makes our service to the public worthy of devotion,’ he stated.
