South Sumatra Police Chief Leads Urban Security Simulation, Targets Zero Forest and Land Fires by 2026
The South Sumatra (Sumsel) Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, led a simulation of the Urban Security System (Sispamkota) and the handling of forest and land fires (karhutla) in Ogan Komering Ilir Regency (OKI). The Police Chief targeted zero karhutla in the South Sumatra region this year.
The Sispamkota simulation was held following the Major Roll Call of Kamtibmas Belt and OKI Karhutla Alert 2026 at the Kayuagung Sports Park, OKI, on Wednesday (22/4/2026). The activity aimed to consolidate cross-sectoral strength to achieve the zero karhutla target in the OKI region in 2026.
The readiness roll call involved 1,051 combined personnel consisting of Police (Polri), Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), local government officials (BPBD, Manggala Agni), and community elements such as Banser, pecalang, PSHT, labour groups, Fire Concerned Community (MPA), and participation from former terrorism convicts.
A total of 307 personnel under the command of the OKI Police Resort Operations Section Head demonstrated an integrated regional security scenario with fire point handling in the Sispamkota simulation. The simulation focused on rapid response flows, inter-agency coordination, and the use of tactical equipment to anticipate urban security disruptions and mitigate the impacts of karhutla.
The South Sumatra Police Chief, along with OKI Regent H Muchendi Mahzareki and Forkopimda officials, also directly inspected exhibition stands of disaster mitigation equipment from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and several local companies in OKI Regency. The presence of Forkopimda officials reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to maintaining security stability and preventing environmental disasters.
In his address, the South Sumatra Police Chief instructed that handling should no longer rely solely on the extinguishing phase but must focus on prevention.
“Handling efforts must prioritise mitigation and early anticipation. We ask all elements to set aside sectoral egos and prioritise public education against opening land by burning, balanced with humane law enforcement,” explained Inspector General Sandi.
In addition to operational readiness, the readiness roll call was also combined with community social activities. Before the roll call began, the South Sumatra Police Chief, accompanied by OKI Police Chief AKBP Eko Rubiyanto, inspected the Health Service and Affordable Food Movement (GPM) facilitated by OKI Police Resort.
On that occasion, the Police Chief symbolically handed over aid packages of basic necessities to five disabled residents and distributed SPHP rice (Food Supply and Price Stabilisation) to community representatives.
“Our service is not measured by position or rank, but by how much benefit we can provide to the community,” he stated.
