South Sumatra Police Chief Leads Tree Planting to Support Environmental Conservation

South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Dr. Sandi Nugroho led a productive tree planting activity at the Assa’adah Mosque area of the South Sumatra Police Headquarters. The activity, attended by key police officials, was part of the 80th Bhayangkara Day celebrations and demonstrated the Indonesian National Police’s commitment to supporting food security, environmental conservation, and sustainable national development programmes. A total of 30 productive trees were planted, consisting of pule, mango, rambutan, mangosteen, water apple, and sapodilla trees. This planting is a continuation of the 10,000 Trees Movement previously carried out as a tangible contribution by the police to preserving the environment while strengthening national food security. The greening activity is an implementation of the Police’s Precision Programme initiated by National Police Chief General Drs. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and aligns with the government’s priority agenda to strengthen food security, preserve the environment, and improve the quality of life for the community. South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Pol. Dr. Sandi Nugroho stressed that the tree planting activity symbolises the police’s dedication to the community and future generations. “The police must always be firmly rooted in the values of Tribrata, grow in service, and bear fruit for the community. This tree planting is a symbol of our commitment to continue supporting national development, preserving the environment, strengthening food security, and providing long-term benefits that can be felt by the community,” he said in a written statement on Sunday (12/7/2026). Through this simple yet sustainable step, the South Sumatra Police aim to show that their service is not only realised through law enforcement but also through care for environmental sustainability and community welfare. The types of trees planted also carry philosophical meanings reflecting the values of police service. The pule tree symbolises firmness, protection, and the shade provided by the police to the community, while the mango, rambutan, mangosteen, water apple, and sapodilla trees represent the hope that every act of service by police personnel will provide sustainable benefits, bring prosperity, and become a symbol of honesty, integrity, and togetherness in carrying out their duties. In addition to providing ecological benefits through improved environmental quality, the greening of the South Sumatra Police Headquarters area is also expected to yield economic and social benefits. The productive trees planted will eventually bear fruit that can be enjoyed together, while creating a greener, more beautiful, comfortable, and healthier area for personnel and the public who conduct activities within the South Sumatra Police Headquarters complex. Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Commissioner Pol. Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stated that the greening activity is part of the police force’s transformation to become more adaptive to the various needs of the community. “The South Sumatra Police are committed to supporting every government programme that provides direct benefits to the community. This tree planting is a form of the police’s concern for the environment as well as a long-term investment in food security, the quality of life of the community, and sustainable development. We hope that the spirit of environmental conservation can become a shared culture among all elements of society,” said Commissioner Pol. Nandang.
