To ensure that Lunar New Year celebrations proceed safely and in an orderly manner, South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho inspected security arrangements at several temples in Palembang. The activity was carried out as part of the South Sumatra Regional Police’s commitment to providing a sense of safety and comfort to communities celebrating Lunar New Year Eve.

Accompanied by the Deputy Police Chief, senior officials of the South Sumatra Regional Police, and the Palembang Metropolitan Police Chief, Sandi directly inspected security operations at several temples in Palembang on Monday (16/2/2026) at approximately 20:00 Western Indonesian Time. The first inspection was conducted at Gie Hap Bio Temple on Jalan Wahidin No. 7, Talang Semut subdistrict, Palembang.

Upon arriving at the location, Sandi and his entourage were welcomed by temple administrators before conducting a thorough check of the area surrounding the place of worship to ensure personnel readiness, security patterns, and that the public order situation was safe and under control.

As a token of appreciation for the dedication of officers on duty, Sandi presented gifts to five representatives comprising three internal temple security personnel, one community police officer (bhabinkamtibmas), and one military neighbourhood non-commissioned officer (babinsa) involved in the security operation.

The inspection then continued at Tri Dharma Temple on Jalan Perikanan, 9-10 Ulu subdistrict, Seberang Ulu I district, Palembang. At this location, Sandi again checked security readiness and interacted with officers and temple administrators to ensure all worship activities proceeded in an orderly and smooth manner.

South Sumatra Regional Police Head of Public Relations Commissioner Nandang stated that the visit represented direct oversight by leadership regarding security preparedness. “Today, the South Sumatra Police Chief, together with senior officials and the Palembang Metropolitan Police Chief, conducted visits to several temples to ensure that security for the Lunar New Year celebrations runs safely and smoothly,” he said.

Nandang added that the security operation involved various elements to guarantee stability throughout the celebrations. “Security involves personnel from the South Sumatra Regional Police, Palembang Metropolitan Police, TNI elements, temple administrators, and community members who voluntarily assist.”

Through this inspection, the South Sumatra Regional Police reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public security and order, particularly during major religious celebrations, so that all worshippers can carry out their religious observances safely, comfortably, and with full solemnity.
