South Sumatra Police Chief Inspects Easter Security at St Joseph's Church: Orderly and Smooth
South Sumatra Police Chief, Irjen Pol Sandi Nugroho, led an inspection of security measures during Easter celebrations at St Joseph’s Church in Palembang. He stated that the Easter observance at St Joseph’s Church ran safely, reverently, and smoothly.
During the visit, Irjen Pol Sandi was accompanied by senior officials from the South Sumatra Police, including Deputy Police Chief Brigjen Pol Rony Samtana, Head of Operations Kombes Pol M. Annis Prasetio, Head of Public Relations Kombes Pol Nandang Mu’min, Head of Intelligence and Security Kombes Pol Tony Budhi Susetyo, and Palembang Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Pol Sony Mahar. The group was welcomed by the Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church, Romo Hyginus Gono Pratowo, and Chairman of the 2026 Easter Committee Yohanes Subardan.
“Praise and thanks to Almighty God, the entire series of worship services from last week up to this Easter Day have proceeded safely, orderly, smoothly, and brought blessings. This security does not come suddenly. Without good planning and our collective prayers, everything would not have gone as expected,” said the Police Chief to the congregation on Sunday (5/4/2026).
Irjen Pol Sandi urged the community to preserve the local wisdom that is the pride of the Land of Sriwijaya in maintaining community security and order (kamtibmas). He hoped that the spirit of mutual cooperation would always be prioritised by the people of South Sumatra.
“May the harmony and spirit of mutual cooperation, which are characteristic of the people of South Sumatra, continue to be maintained and developed together,” he said.
The Police Chief also conveyed a message regarding the presence of Police personnel and joint apparatus on the ground. He noted that in maintaining security, the police synergise with various parties, including community elements.
“We entrust our members from the Provincial Police, Metropolitan Police, and Sub-district Police to you all. If you meet them in the field, please greet them. If there is anything wrong, please forgive them; if they ask for help, such as a glass of water, please provide it. The police cannot work alone to maintain kamtibmas without support and prayers from the community,” he explained.
On that occasion, Romo Hyginus Gono Pratowo expressed his gratitude for the security provided by the police apparatus. He stated that the 2026 Easter celebrations ran smoothly and safely.
“On behalf of the entire Catholic congregation of St Joseph’s Parish in Palembang, I extend a warm welcome and deepest thanks for the extraordinary attention and support from the TNI-Polri. We felt very comfortable in our worship from Palm Sunday up to this Easter celebration. Everything happened due to very good cooperation,” added Romo Hyginus Gono.
