Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, the South Sumatra Police Chief, attended the inauguration of the Cahaya Anugrah Abadi Orphanage, along with the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of a boys’ dormitory. Inspector General Sandi also provided social assistance to residents in the Sematang Borang sub-district, Palembang.

This activity serves as a tangible manifestation of the Indonesian National Police’s (Polri) presence among the community, beyond merely maintaining security and public order. The series of events proceeded solemnly.

The ceremony began with the recitation of a prayer, followed by the screening of an introductory video, the distribution of social assistance in the form of basic food supplies and wheelchairs, and the laying of the foundation stone for the orphanage construction.

Inspector General Sandi emphasised that the social activity reflects the spirit of Polri’s dedication, not only as guardians of security but also as part of social solutions within the community.

“This aligns with the spirit of Polri’s service, namely being present not only as security guardians but also as part of social solutions in the midst of society,” said Inspector General Sandi on Thursday (16/4/2026).

Inspector General Sandi explained that the existence of the orphanage and the distribution of social assistance represent genuine concern for children who require collective support to grow well.

“Children who need attention, affection, and decent accommodation must be supported so that they can face the future better and full of hope,” the Police Chief stressed.

Furthermore, Inspector General Sandi emphasised that attention to children should not be limited to formal education but must also include mental development and character building.

“Currently, children not only need formal education but also mental education, moral guidance, ethics, and character building. Therefore, the role of all of us is very important in accompanying and guiding them to grow into a healthy, intelligent, and civilised generation,” he stated.

According to him, what the police force has done through this activity demonstrates that Polri’s duties do not stop at maintaining security and public order; Polri must also be present to provide broader benefits to society.

“What has been done here shows that Polri members are not only tasked with maintaining security but also strive to provide broader benefits to society,” said the Police Chief.

Through this activity, the South Sumatra Regional Police reaffirm that Polri’s presence in the midst of society is realised not only through security maintenance and law enforcement duties but also through social actions that provide direct benefits.

The inauguration of the orphanage, the groundbreaking for the boys’ dormitory, and the provision of social assistance to the community reflect Polri’s commitment to continuously being present, serving, and dedicating themselves to society.
