South Sumatra Police Chief Guarantees Security for BPS Field Officers
Palembang, VIVA – The South Sumatra Regional Police is strengthening its support for the national development agenda through a strategic collaboration with the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of South Sumatra Province to ensure the success of the 2026 economic census. This synergy is a crucial step to guarantee the availability of accurate data as the basis for formulating government economic policies. South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho directly received a working visit from the Head of BPS South Sumatra Province and his team at the Delegate Room on the 2nd Floor of the Presisi Building at Polda Sumsel Headquarters on Monday, 13 April 2026. The meeting discussed strengthening coordination in collecting strategic data, including inflation indicators, economic growth, and mapping of micro, small, and medium enterprises. This step aligns with the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the importance of data validity in supporting the acceleration of national economic development. The Police Chief emphasised that the Indonesian National Police has an important role in maintaining regional economic stability, including through inflation control and securing the distribution of basic necessities. “We are ready to fully support the implementation of the 2026 economic census, both through security and field coordination to ensure the process runs safely and smoothly,” he asserted. In its implementation, the Police Chief instructed all ranks down to the territorial level to provide assistance to BPS officers. Police personnel will also help provide appeals to the public to participate actively and provide accurate data during the census process. This collaboration is expected to produce valid and comprehensive data as the basis for targeted economic policy-making. Such data will also support efforts to improve public welfare and strengthen regional economic competitiveness. The Head of Public Relations of Polda Sumsel, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stated that Polda Sumsel is ready to strengthen cooperation with BPS, including through the formal renewal of the cooperation agreement. “We are committed to fully supporting the implementation of the 2026 economic census so that it runs safely, orderly, and smoothly as part of our contribution to national development,” he said. Polda Sumatera Selatan reaffirms its commitment to continue playing an active role in supporting the government’s strategic agenda, not only in maintaining security and order but also in strengthening the foundation of data-based economic development that is accurate and reliable.
