South Sumatra Police Chief Discusses Legalisation of Community Oil Wells with SKK Migas
The South Sumatra Police Chief, Irjen Sandi Nugroho, received a visit from representatives of SKK Migas. The meeting discussed accelerating the governance of community oil wells to integrate them into a legal and sustainable system.
The meeting took place at the Presisi Building of the South Sumatra Police Headquarters on Tuesday (21/4/2026). This forum served as a coordination platform between law enforcement authorities and energy sector regulators.
The main focus of the discussion was factual verification in the field and concrete steps to transform community oil activities from illegal practices into legal ones. Irjen Sandi stated that his side would ensure the transformation process for community oil wells proceeds orderly and in accordance with regulations.
“Legality is not just about permits, but also about compliance with safety and environmental standards. We ensure the entire process runs according to the rules to support the national oil lifting targets,” emphasised Irjen Sandi.
He stated that these steps are part of support for the government’s priority programme in achieving national energy self-sufficiency. The implementation of this policy refers to the latest energy sector regulations, including arrangements for managing community wells to provide real contributions to state revenues.
The South Sumatra Police, together with SKK Migas, will conduct field verifications and integrated supervision. Musi Banyuasin Regency (Muba) will serve as the pilot area for implementing community oil well governance in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
With this scheme, it is hoped that illegal drilling practices can be curbed, work accident risks reduced, and environmental pollution prevented. According to him, with a legal and structured system, communities can work safely and contribute to the national economy.
Irjen Sandi emphasised that there will be no tolerance for illegal activities that continue outside official mechanisms. He assured that law enforcement will be carried out firmly.
“We fully support government policies, but safety standards and legal compliance are non-negotiable. Any violations will be firmly addressed to protect national and public interests,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Kombes Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stated that they prioritise a preventive and preemptive approach in overseeing this programme.
“The South Sumatra Police will continue to monitor this programme with SKK Migas through factual verifications and ongoing supervision. The aim is for this transformation to run successfully and provide real benefits to the community and the state,” he said.
This cross-sectoral synergy is expected to become a momentum for South Sumatra to serve as a national pilot in organising community oil wells. The South Sumatra Police ensure the process runs professionally, transparently, and oriented towards national interests.
