South Sumatra Police Build 81 'Red and White Precision' Bridges
The South Sumatra Regional Police, together with its ranks, have built 81 Merah Putih bridges in various parts of South Sumatra Province to shorten travel distances and support community activities ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho in Palembang on Thursday said the programme was part of the Inauguration of the National Police’s Merah Putih Bridges, which was carried out centrally via video conference with the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the National Police Chief on Thursday (13/8).
He explained that in South Sumatra, one of the crossing facilities inaugurated is located in Lalang Village, Sembawa District, Banyuasin Regency. The bridge, measuring 14 metres in length and 1.5 metres in width, provides direct benefits to around 900 local residents.
He stressed that infrastructure development that touches the basic needs of the community is a manifestation of the National Police’s presence whose benefits can be felt directly. According to him, the spirit of independence is realised through concrete steps that can improve the quality of life of the community, not merely ceremonial activities.
Based on recapitulation data from the South Sumatra Police and the ranks of the Resort Police/Municipal Police, this programme covers 81 bridges, consisting of 74 units that have been completed and 7 other units still in the construction process.
Meanwhile, Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Senior Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, said that the construction of the Merah Putih bridges is focused on answering the real needs of communities that have long faced accessibility limitations.
He explained that the physical construction aims to facilitate economic, educational and social activities, while opening up inter-regional connectivity. The momentum of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is expected to be translated into development that frees communities from isolation.
