South Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office Recovers Rp127 Billion in State Losses Through Mediation with Haji Halim's Family

The South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati Sumsel) has announced the recovery of state losses from a suspected corruption case involving Palembang businessman Haji Abdul Halim Ali, known as Haji Halim. Facilitated by the Civil and State Administrative Law Division (Datun) of Kejati Sumsel, the recovery was the result of negotiations and mediation between the prosecutor’s office and the family heirs of Haji Halim. The total recovery amounts to Rp127.3 billion, paid in stages.

R.M Budi Sentosa, legal counsel for Haji Halim’s family, stated that this recovery demonstrates a commitment and good faith to resolve the previous matter concerning the alleged corruption of state land use. The case was declared void by law by the Palembang Corruption Court judge following Haji Halim’s death on 22 January 2026. After his passing, the criminal matter was resolved through civil and state administrative channels.

‘This can serve as an example that the recovery of state financial losses does not necessarily have to go through criminal proceedings or criminal execution, but can also be settled through mediation with the Civil and State Administrative Law Division,’ Budi said in an official statement on Wednesday, 5 August 2026. He added that the funds deposited into the state treasury will be used for business activities involving the community of Musi Banyuasin (Muba).

This aligns with Haji Halim’s lifelong ambition to assist the local community, particularly in oil palm plantations. Technically, the utilisation of the recovered funds will be carried out by the Muba regional government. ‘These plantation business activities will eventually increase job availability and other forms of collaboration or cooperation with the local community,’ he said.

Previously, the Civil and State Administrative Law Division of the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office facilitated the phased return of state financial losses in the alleged corruption case involving state land use by the late Haji Halim. The recovery was announced during a press conference at the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. Deputy Head of the South Sumatra High Prosecutor’s Office, Anton Delianto, stated that this recovery step was taken based on the Substitution Power of Attorney Number SK-11/L.6/GP.2/04/2026. Through this letter, the State Attorney was appointed to conduct negotiations and mediation with the family heirs of the late Haji Halim.
