South Sumatra Governor: Sultan Muda Programme Reaches 10,334 Participants
South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru announced that the number of participants in the Sultan Muda South Sumatra programme has reached 10,334 people as of July 2026. Speaking after opening the Sultan Muda Fair 2026 in Palembang on Monday, he said the figure demonstrates the high interest among young people in improving their capacity in entrepreneurship and financial literacy. “Today it was conveyed that the number of Sultan Muda participants has reached more than 10,000 people, precisely 10,334 people who have registered,” he said. He stated that the regional government, together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and various stakeholders, continues to encourage the improvement of digital financial literacy among young people as preparation for facing technology-driven economic developments. Therefore, young people who understand digital finance are expected to be able to create new business opportunities, thereby contributing to regional economic growth while reducing unemployment. “We listened to a presentation on the importance of preparing our greatest asset, which is young people who understand the digital world, especially in relation to financial literacy,” he said. Herman Deru also expressed appreciation to OJK South Sumatra for facilitating the Sultan Muda Fair, which is considered capable of strengthening public trust in the financial services sector ecosystem. He expressed hope that the Sultan Muda programme will continue and have a real impact on improving community welfare through better economic growth. “We hope the Sultan Muda programme will continue to have an impact on South Sumatra’s economic growth, with growth continuing to increase and unemployment continuing to decline,” he said. Meanwhile, Head of OJK South Sumatra Arifin Susanto said the Sultan Muda programme is designed to develop young entrepreneurs in stages, so that participants are not oriented towards instant results. OJK also provides business consultation and mentoring services, including outside working hours, so that participants can obtain solutions to various obstacles they face in developing their businesses. “We have prepared a consultation space, including services after working hours, so that participants can consult for free if they face problems in running their businesses,” he said. The South Sumatra Sultan Muda programme is a strategic initiative by the South Sumatra Provincial Government together with OJK to produce 100,000 new young entrepreneurs. The programme focuses on digitalisation, financial literacy, and the downstream processing of local products.
