TEMPO Interactive, Palembang: The South Sumatera Government will speed up construction of the international harbour Tanjung Api-Api. The harbour is a strategic entry point for commodities in South Sumatera.

This statement was made by Vice Governor of South Sumatera, Eddy Yusuf, when representing the Governor in a meeting of the South Sumatera Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Thursday (11/6).

Eddy explained that the harbour has a strategic position that is 480 kilometers away from Jakarta, 450 kilometers from Singapore, and 727 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur.

The harbour construction covers 73.6-kilometers of road construction, 7 bridges, a quay, a trestle bridge, and double railways that are 540 kilometers long (270 kilometers each). These facilities cross all regencies and cities in South Sumatera.

“The central government has issued a permission for the construction,” said Eddy.

They have only transported 10 million tons of coal. It is expected that the harbour can transport 40-50 million tons per year or even 100-150 million tons.
