South Sulawesi Province has received an allocation of Rp258.17 billion through the 2025 Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on Regional Roads programme for the construction and improvement of local roads. Through this programme, 20 regencies and cities in South Sulawesi will receive infrastructure treatment covering 62.54 kilometres, aimed at strengthening regional connectivity and supporting local economic growth. Andi Ihsan, Head of the South Sulawesi Highways and Construction Development Agency (BMBK), stated in Makassar on Wednesday that the budget is not only intended to deliver physical road infrastructure but also to open up access and create more equitable development opportunities. “Through this programme, the central government is not just building roads, but also opening access, delivering better services, and promoting equitable development for communities, including those in remote areas,” he said. He noted that the benefits of road construction will be felt directly by the public, as it impacts various strategic sectors, from education and healthcare to the regional economy. He explained that improved road access will facilitate the distribution of agricultural products, reduce transportation costs, and help maintain commodity price stability by enabling faster and more efficient delivery. “This road work provides significant benefits for education and health services. The agricultural sector also gains because the distribution of produce becomes quicker, helping to keep prices stable,” he said. Beyond supporting the smooth distribution of goods and services, the improved road quality is also expected to accelerate the development of agricultural centres, fisheries, and tourism destinations that drive the economy in various parts of South Sulawesi. Andi Ihsan also expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Public Works, particularly the South Sulawesi National Road Implementation Centre (BBPJN), for their support and oversight in realising the programme. “The South Sulawesi Provincial Government continues to strengthen coordination and collaboration with the central government to achieve equitable and sustainable regional development,” he said.
