South Sulawesi Provincial Government Allocates IDR 239 Billion to Repair Strategic Maros-Makassar Road
The South Sulawesi Provincial Government has begun repairing the Makassar City Boundary-Pamanjengan-Benteng Gajah road section in Maros Regency. A budget of Rp 239 billion has been prepared for the infrastructure work on one of the strategic routes connecting Maros with Makassar City.
Maros Regent HAS Chaidir Syam said the road repair is part of the Multi Years Project (MYP) Package 6 Infrastructure Programme of the South Sulawesi Provincial Government. The work in the Moncongloe area covers a stretch of approximately 9.3 kilometres.

Construction was marked by a groundbreaking ceremony for the preservation work on the Makassar City Boundary-Pamanjengan-Benteng Gajah section in Moncongloe Village, Moncongloe District, Maros Regency, around two weeks ago.
Chaidir said the section holds a strategic position as it is one of the connecting routes between Maros Regency and Makassar City. High vehicle mobility means the condition of the road infrastructure directly affects community activities.
The route is also part of the movement of goods and people between the two areas. Therefore, improving the quality of the road is expected to make travel smoother while supporting economic activity in the surrounding area.
South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman said the road construction is the government’s response to public aspirations. The poor condition of the road has been one of the issues complained about by residents and road users.
The provincial government then included the section in infrastructure work carried out in stages. Permanent work is expected to provide better road quality compared to temporary repairs.
However, Sudirman cautioned that the construction process could potentially affect vehicle flow. Heavy equipment activity and road works may cause traffic slowdowns and temporarily disrupt public mobility.
“We apologise if during the work process it hinders the activities of local residents and the mobility of motorists,” Sudirman said.
The South Sulawesi Provincial Government has asked the public to be patient during the construction period. Temporary disruption is considered an unavoidable part of the process of improving infrastructure quality on the section.
