South Sulawesi KPU Begins Inventorying Special and Regular Polling Stations for 2029 Elections

The General Elections Commission (KPU) of South Sulawesi Province has begun inventorying polling stations (TPS) in special and regular locations as preparation for the 2029 General Election. “This TPS inventory is an early preparedness measure, including mapping potential TPS in special locations and regular TPS spread across residential areas in South Sulawesi,” said KPU Sulsel Data and Information Division member Romy Harminto during a coordination meeting on TPS inventory at the KPU Sulsel office in Makassar on Thursday. According to him, the inventory is an important part of drafting a more accurate and effective election plan, ensuring the fulfilment of every citizen’s voting rights. Special TPS locations are placed, as in previous elections and regional elections, in detention centres, prisons, mining areas, hospitals, and other locations that meet the requirements. Romy stated that this step is part of an effort to realise accurate voter data, mature planning, and an effective, inclusive, and high-quality election administration. He hopes that all KPU offices in the 24 districts and cities will continue to inventory TPS carefully, comprehensively, and in accordance with applicable regulations as part of the preparation for the 2029 General Election, which must be conducted with integrity and oriented towards providing the best service for voters. Based on data from the 14 February 2024 General Election, the total number of TPS reached 26,357 units spread across 313 sub-districts and 3,058 villages/wards in 24 districts/cities throughout South Sulawesi, with a maximum voter limit of 300 people. Meanwhile, during the 27 November 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections, the total number of TPS was recorded at 14,548 units spread across 313 sub-districts and 3,058 villages/wards in 24 districts/cities across South Sulawesi. The decrease in the number of TPS from the 2024 General Election was due to the maximum voter limit per TPS being set at 600 people. For special location TPS, there were 65 units recorded across the 24 districts/cities. In the 2024 Presidential Election, the recapitulation of vote acquisition by the South Sulawesi KPU recorded a total of 5,279,557 valid ballots and 94,598 invalid ballots, with a Final Voter List of 6,680,797 voters, consisting of 3,251,511 male voters and 3,429,296 female voters.
